Spunky by name, spunky by nature. Spunky was born in NZ and came to Australia when a baby. He won many group and in show awards during his show career, and won Opposite Sex Puppy in Show at the Adelaide Royal Show, and a reserve challenge at the Melbourne Royal whilst wagging his tail and barking profusely.
Spunky went to obedience school and fell in love with Josette's Newfoundland Shadow. We became lifelong friends and would often be seen at shows together, nicknamed the black and white minstrels.
Spunky's first litter produced two champions. CH Kimskaya the Centrefold "Lacey" a lovely bitch which Margaret James owns. Margaret kindly let me show her to her title. I kept Aust/NZ Ch Kimskaya the Hustler.
In Tasmania Spunky mated Kimskaya Pure Calico and from this litter we titled NZ Ch Kimskaya So Saintly (owned by Kimskaya NZ) and two puppies were sent to Hong Kong. Furball is the love of Rosita's life and has been used on photo magazine covers and is a very good obedience dog.
Vashka Kennels also used Spunky and his daughter Ch Vashka the Alchemist was the top challenge wining bitch in Tasmania for two years. "Chemy amassed over 60 State Bred in Group awards and several In Show awards. She has over 800 challenges and has produced several champions herself.
Currently I have Vashka Applied Chemistry "Spice" and her pedigree boasts Spunky on both sides. We are hoping that the barking is not doubled. So far so good!
Spunky had lots of admirers - he loved to dress up in costumes, and have tea parties at the table with his bib on. He enjoyed dressing up in his reindog costume and parading in the Christmas street parades.
In his later years he lived with Lynn at Wynyard, and was the pride of the town as he strode along the beach chasing after Latte, his constant Samoyed companion
Spunky died aged 13 peacefully and is remembered with love by all who met him.
